What are chipped and non-chipped cartridges?

Chipped ink cartridges were originally introduced at the turn on the millennium. The reason behind their introduction was to ensure the printer recognised not only a cartridge made by the same manufacturer as the printer was attached but also how much ink remained inside. Since then, we’ve gone to great lengths to ensure that all our compatible cartridges come with chip technology so you can print with confidence knowing the product will be accepted by your machine.

Are there cheaper alternatives to chipped cartridges?

Yes and no. In many cases, inkjet cartridges may be refilled manually which can offer savings of up to 70% of the price of a cartridge made by the same manufacturer as the printer. However, once used, the chip may cease to read the level of ink accurately. Previously, another option was to purchase a less expensive cartridge which would be compatible with the printer manufacturer (such as HP, Epson, Canon and Brother) and transfer the chip from the empty to the replacement cartridge.

Today, we’re able to offer compatible ink cartridges that don’t require you to carry out this costly and time consuming process. Instead, you can rely on Cartridge People to source only the best consumables for your home or office printer.

It is the same scenario when you look at our range of compatible toner cartridges. Across all the major printer brands, we have cheap toner cartridges available that can provide you with reliability and affordability. Some original toner cartridges may have microchips installed in their cartridges but the cheaper ‘compatibles’ will also have ‘compatible’ microchips.

Is using a cartridge with a ‘compatible’ chip illegal?

No. Purchasing cheaper alternative ink cartridges or toner cartridges from genuine vendors such as Cartridge People is perfectly legal.
