Seven Reasons To Print In Colour
Here are seven reasons why you should choose to print in colour.
Here, we provide seven reasons why you should choose to print in colour…
1) Save money (think about it….)
For some time, there has been a notion that in order to save money on printing it is best to print everything in monochrome. But what is becoming more and more evident is that monochrome printing can provide a ‘printing safety net’ both in the home and in the office. When people print in monochrome, there can be less cost if it goes wrong and because of that, you can often see pages and pages of monochrome printed paper wasted (along with the ink) used because there is less care taken in proofing the page before pressing ‘print’.
A recent survey, conducted by BusinessWaste.co.uk, asked 250 UK companies about their paper and office supply habits over the last five years and found that many were using just as much as they were before, despite having green policies in place to reduce the amount of paperwork generated.
What many businesses do is try and use colour printing as a means to ensure the standard of work remains at a certain level. Insisting on colour printing in the office promotes a ‘get it right first time’ ethos. If you think about it, imagine the care you would take preparing that piece of work for print if you knew there would be a greater cost for getting it wrong. Printing out a page just once in colour can be more beneficial than constant re-prints in mono (especially if you use remanufactured cartridges).
2) Positive first impressions
Whether it’s a piece of coursework for school or university or an office document to a potential customer, colour printing allows you to make a positive first impression. By having your documents optimised with some eye-catching colours which are printed at a good resolution on the page, you can show your work carries a professionalism which others will recognise.
3) Improved readability
Careful use of colour printing can help make your work more readable. If you have a student in your household working on homework for university or high school, try and think of the reader (a teacher or lecturer) and all the other pieces of work they’re likely to be marking around the same time they see the work you’ve spent so much time and effort on. Help your work stand out by using colour on the page to support your work.
4) Helping children learn
For teachers, colour printing could help you to engage more with your pupils. Studies in America have shown that schoolchildren can decipher difficult information easier when colour printing is used to help explain the information.
In 2012, a Xerox study found that children felt that colour printed textbooks and worksheets made them more interesting. Our Cartridge People also further explored the benefits of colour printing for children here.
5) Get the mood right for your office
Last year, a Forbes article looked into the use of colours within an office space. ‘Colour psychology’ could be used in an office as well as a retail space and various colours could be used to promote different ways of thinking. Green, for example, could be used to spark creativity, according to Sally Augustin (an environmental psychologist).
It may seem like a minor detail, but in a business world where everyone is looking for that “extra one per cent” there could be value in assessing what colours to use the next time your office is due a re-paint. Yellow is probably best to avoid, though. “Avoid painting public spaces yellow because most people aren’t a fan of the colour. However, the people who do like yellow, seem to have a huge preference for it, whereas most people only slightly favour one colour over another. Overall, yellow remains the least likely favourite colour for most people, so pick a different colour if you want to appeal to the masses,” said Augustin.
6) Set the right temperature
In the same Forbes article, the issue of colour perception was discussed. The use of ‘warm’ colours like red and orange could lead people to believe a room is warmer than it is. Unsurprisingly, blue would have the opposite effect. Think about that with your colour printed flyers and posters around the work place. Are they combining to create a colder climate in the office? For those business owners (or home owners for that matter) who are looking to save money on heating bills, this could be another cost saver!
7) Brand recognition
The importance of making your brand stand out is obvious. In a competitive business world, being noticed is key and so it can be beneficial to have that approach to all your correspondence. Make sure that when people receive a piece of information in the post that they recognise your brand instantly by seeing your colours clearly at the top of the page. In some cases, it has been found that brand recognition can go up by 80 per cent with the use of colour.
